Cookie Policy
We keep cookies to a minimum. We use essential cookies to run the site and privacy-conscious analytics cookies to measure traffic. If you arrive on a link that carries a partner code, one first-party cookie records that code so the partner can be credited. We do not use advertising cookies.
Essential cookies
Needed for the site to work — your session/login and your age confirmation. These can't be turned off.
Affiliate (partner) cookie
LunaCat runs a partner programme: independent sites and creators can link to us and earn a commission when someone they sent us buys. When you arrive on a link that carries a partner code (an ?a= parameter in the address), we set a single first-party cookie so that the right partner is credited if you later sign up. It is written as you arrive, before you confirm your age and before you sign in, because it has to survive both of those steps for the partner to be credited at all.
- Name:
lc_aff— first-party, set by lunacat.ai and sent to nobody else. - Purpose: affiliate attribution (crediting the partner who referred you) and fraud prevention (detecting clicks that were never really made and partners referring themselves).
- Lifetime: 90 days from your most recent click on a partner link. Arriving through a partner link again — the same one or a different one — writes the cookie again and restarts the 90 days, so if you keep returning through partner links the cookie keeps being renewed. You can delete it at any time (see below).
- Properties:
httpOnly(no script on the page can read it),SecureandSameSite=Lax. - What it holds:the partner's code and our own internal identifier for that partner; the partner's campaign tag if their link carried one (the
&s=value — lower-case letters, digits and hyphens, up to 64 characters, chosen entirely by the partner, so it can be as broad as a channel name or as narrow as the partner cares to make it); the time of the click; the same set of values for one earlier partner click, if you arrived on more than one partner link; and a signature that lets us detect tampering. It carries no name, no email address, no account identifier and nothing we could use to recognise you on another site. - Codes that belong to nobody: anyone can put an
?a=parameter on a link to lunacat.ai. We do not always know at that instant whether the code is a real partner code, so the cookie may be stored for one that is not. When that happens no click is recorded, the cookie credits nobody, and it expires on its own.
This is not an advertising cookie: it does not follow you to other sites, it is never shared with an ad network, and it is not used to build a profile of you. We set it without asking you first, on the footing that we have a legitimate interest in paying our partners correctly and in preventing referral fraud (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). There is no cookie banner on LunaCat today; we keep that position under review, and if we introduce one this cookie will be brought under it.
Because we rely on legitimate interests, you have the right to object to this processing (Article 21 GDPR). Email us at [email protected] and we will stop using your click for attribution and delete the click record we hold; tell us roughly when you arrived and which partner link you used, so we can find it. You can also delete the cookie yourself at any time by clearing cookies in your browser. The only consequence either way is that the partner who referred you is no longer credited.
Analytics cookies
We use Google Analytics to understand traffic and improve the product. It sets first-party analytics cookies (such as _ga) and a pseudonymous identifier so we can measure how the site is used. We keep all Google Analytics advertising signals switched off, so no advertising or personalisation cookies are set. We rely on our legitimate interest in understanding and improving the service (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR) for this limited measurement, and we do not use it to build advertising profiles or to identify you personally.
Opting out of analytics
You can opt out of Google Analytics at any time — for example by using Google's official opt-out browser add-on, by blocking or clearing cookies in your browser, or by using your browser's “do not track” and tracking-protection features. Opting out does not affect your ability to use LunaCat.
Managing cookies
You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings. Blocking essential cookies may stop parts of LunaCat from working. How cookie data relates to your personal data is explained in our Privacy Policy.
