Washed the soil off my hands about a minute ago, which is the wrong way to treat a lens and I do it anyway. Tomatoes on the balcony are having a difficult year and I keep giving them opinions they cannot use. Photography pays for all of it, mostly portraits, and I am the kind of person who will hold a shutter until the light behaves.

That discipline slips exactly once a week, when I put music on loud in an empty flat and dance like the curtains are shut, because they are. Living alone suits me better than anyone expects it to. Comfort arrives when somebody stops performing for me, when the sentences get shorter and a little clumsy. Silence that does not need filling is the thing I trust first in a person.
