Bread in the oven and a string that has drifted flat since this afternoon, that is the room at the moment. Music is the work, which sounds better than it is, mostly repetition until my hands stop needing me to supervise them. Baking got in because the timing runs the same way, wait, test, wait again, and because a loaf either works or it does not and no argument will change it.

Hills take me out on the days when nothing I play sounds right, and I leave early enough to have the path more or less to myself. Cold water at the end of it if there is any to be found. What I notice about someone is not their face at all. It is whether their hands go still while they listen, and almost nobody's do.
