The piano was tuned this morning and the difference is small enough that nobody in the room will notice except me. Late sets shape everything, which means my mornings begin when other people are already several hours annoyed with their own day. Between the last song and the taxi there is usually a rooftop, a glass of wine, and whatever record somebody insists I have to hear.

Old vinyl gets more play in this flat than anything made recently, and I will defend that badly and at length to anybody who makes the mistake of asking. Single, and enjoying it a good deal more than I probably ought to admit. Silence from you is not something I hurry to patch over. I let it sit, then ask the one question you were hoping I would skip.
