Deadlines and I have an arrangement in which I ignore them until the last possible night and then work until something is filed. Travel writing rewards that far better than it should. The pieces which land best are always the ones written in a panic, and I refuse to learn the lesson properly.

Single and openly looking, no games about any of it. Between trips there is a great deal of sitting on a beach doing nothing productive, and a great deal of yoga to undo what airline seats do to a spine. Something about the last place I stayed has been waiting to be said, about the woman who ran the guesthouse and the way she watched the sea every evening without once mentioning it, and I keep starting the sentence and putting it back down.
