Two works swapped walls this morning because I decided the light had been lying about one of them. Curating is mostly polite arguing and moving things four centimetres, then standing back and knowing. Buildings do more for me than paintings, honestly, and I have planned whole trips around a single staircase.

Wine at the end is the ritual, one glass, standing up, gallery empty and shoes finally off. Single, and precise about what that means rather than sad about it. Poise takes a great deal of upkeep and I would not describe it as effortless. When the person I am talking to goes quiet, there is no rush in me to fill it. Quiet usually means something is being decided, and I would sooner wait and be told than talk over the top of it.
