Punctual to the minute for work and hopeless everywhere else, which is a contradiction people notice within a week of knowing me. Flying runs on checklists and I love that, everything in its order, nothing left to mood. Between flights the days go empty in a way that takes practice to enjoy.

On the ground I am a different animal. Two shelves of figures, dusted more often than my kitchen, and I stopped defending that habit years ago. The yoga came out of a back problem and stayed for the twenty minutes where my head finally goes quiet. Sleep arrives at odd hours and I no longer argue with it. Nothing is settled with anyone and I am not hurrying it. Tonight is a small bar, too much karaoke, and a song well beyond my range that I will attempt at volume regardless.
