Skipped my own training today to sit with a kid who has lost three fights running and had decided that was the whole story. Coaching is like that, half technique and half talking somebody out of a conclusion they reached far too fast and defended far too hard. My hands still go on the wraps every evening, because I do not trust advice from anyone who quit doing the work.

Afterwards it is a bowl of ramen somewhere that stays open much too late, alone, phone face down on the counter and the day finally over. Records I buy quicker than I play them and the stack by the turntable is now load bearing. Single, and not in a hurry about that. Left glove first, always, and if I get that wrong I take both off and start again.
