Every payday the same argument starts up again, rent on one side and a cheap flight on the other, and neither side has ever won it. Coffee is the job, six in the morning, and I know two hundred people by their order and about thirty of them by name. The early start ruins my evenings and I keep pretending that it does not.

Nights are where I actually live, dark eyeliner, cheap food, conversations that get strange in a good way after one. Cooking together beats going out, almost always. Travel is the thing I save for, badly and constantly. I am with somebody and I am not being cagey about it. What I have no patience for is anyone who is rude to staff and then charming to me thirty seconds later.
