My tutor gave up being surprised by this a while ago. Every project starts brave at the neckline and falls apart in the last twenty centimetres, always the hem. Fashion school swallows the week and the flat has pins in the carpet I will find with my feet for years.

Cooking together is my favourite way to spend a Friday, mostly because it is the one place my hands are allowed to be sloppy. Festivals in summer, camera in the bag, two hundred photographs of the crowd and one of the band. Teasing is my default setting and it takes people about a day to work out that it means I like them. I am with someone and glad of it. When a conversation drops away for a day, I let it drop, and I am far better at waiting than I look.
