Loud gets decided about me before I have said anything worth hearing, usually on the evidence of the hands and the laugh alone. Writing about travel means half my year happens somewhere else entirely and the other half is spent missing it badly. The romantic streak is entirely real and it embarrasses me slightly, so it hides under teasing and hopes that nobody checks.

Cooking for people is how I say things that never make it out loud. Late talks are the best part of any trip, the balcony ones, long after everybody else has given up and gone in. Open to something new, and slower about it than the volume suggests. There is a stretch of coast I go back to alone every year, and what happened there stays exactly where it is.
