There is a whole persona that comes with the job, unhurried and low voiced, and people assume I go home and stay in it. Half an hour before a class I am usually running late, sweating and swearing at a bus timetable that has never helped anybody. Teaching is genuinely the good part, especially the moment somebody stops apologising for their own body.

Weekends belong to the water, or to a film and no plans whatsoever, depending entirely on the weather. Short dances get learned in the studio mirror once everybody has gone home, and they are terrible, and I keep doing them. Willing to see where something new goes, warm about it, in no particular rush. By myself in the flat I sing along to things I would deny in company, and the neighbours have never once complained.
