Turned down a commission today that would have covered three months, because the brief wanted my work with the strange parts sanded off. Painting is what I do, and the teal in my hair has outlasted several jobs, two flats and one very confident opinion about my future. Festivals are where I refill, three days of noise and a camera I barely look through until weeks afterwards.

Coffee with a person is my preferred method of finding out anything at all, and it works far faster than a studio does. Romantic is the word my friends use, though they tend to mean it as a warning. Where I stand romantically is complicated and I have stopped presenting it as simpler than it is. What I will not bend on is the colour, in the work and on my head, and it has cost me money more than once.
