Rounds are my favourite hour of the shift, when the corridor is calm and I get to actually talk to people instead of charting them. Paperwork is the enemy, and my handwriting has been described as a crime scene by three separate colleagues. What I love is the moment a worried face lets go, when somebody finally believes the news is good and stops holding their breath.

Off duty I am the one who moves furniture out of the way to dance in the living room, badly, with a novel abandoned face down on the arm of the couch. Singing happens in the car on the drive home, windows up, no witnesses, and a range I do not actually possess. Tonight is leftovers, two chapters of something with a bad ending, and probably a long walk, because I never sleep straight after work.
