Whether to bring the guitar into class is a fight I have with myself every term, because it works and it also ends the lesson early. Teaching suits me more than I expected, mostly the noise of it, and the way thirty people can be persuaded to care about something for six minutes. Baking is the other half, and I am the sort who forgets one tray entirely while photographing the first.

Weekends are a camera and no destination, which is how I end up with four hundred pictures of doors. Open is what I say about my situation and I mean it in the plain sense. Around a new person I stay tense until they are careless in front of me, a bad joke or a real opinion. Perfect manners for a whole hour and I start looking for the exit.
