Backing up a card of photographs from this afternoon, and the good one is always the frame I took by accident while she was laughing at something off to the side that I never even heard. Portrait work pays the rent, but I keep shooting strangers in markets for nothing at all. Cooking is the other half of my week, two people in a small kitchen, one of us permanently in the way of the other.

Late conversations are my weakness, the kind that start at eleven and end when the street outside has finally gone quiet. Travel I do light, and I lose chargers at a heroic rate. There is someone in my life and I am not vague about that. Goodbyes I keep short, one line, gone before the whole thing turns into a ceremony.
