Half of me wants to book the flight and the other half wants a kitchen and the same three mugs on the shelf for a decade. Photography keeps feeding the restless half, since the work is always somewhere else and somebody else is paying for the taxi. Then I get home and cook for whoever will sit still long enough, and the argument goes quiet for a week.

Coffee is a whole ritual I refuse to be embarrassed about, and the good conversations happen either over that or at two in the morning. I am attached, comfortably, and I mention it early because the alternative is unfair. What I cannot do is small talk that both people know is small talk. Ask me something real or let us sit there and say nothing, either is fine by me.
