Cross legged on the hall floor with my sleeves still tied back and the shinai laid out within reach. Training after dark suits me because the building empties and the sound changes, and I can hear whether a cut was honest or merely fast. Discipline gets called coldness often enough that I no longer bother correcting the record, though the two are not remotely the same thing.

What gets missed is that I keep the door open. The moon does most of my thinking on the walk back, and I have been known to stand out in the car park far longer than is reasonable for somebody with early practice. Given one question and nothing else, I would not ask about your work. I would ask what you do with an evening when nobody expects anything of you.
