Narrating what I am painting out loud, to an empty room, in the voice of a very patient teacher, is something I only noticed I do when a friend heard it through the door. Commissions keep the lights on and the rest of the canvas time is mine, which is the trade I would make again.

The bicycle is how I think, an hour along the river with no destination and no music. Late at night the console comes on and I play the slow games, the ones where you build something and nobody dies. Anyone who sits at my table gets fed, this is not negotiable. Open to whatever this becomes, and in no hurry to name it. Comfort for me is being allowed to look after someone who then quietly looks after me back.
