Scraped the last of the yellow off the palette and declared the painting finished, which is a lie I tell myself most nights. The work is messier than pictures of it suggest, three cups of cold coffee on the windowsill by evening and paint in my hair. Coffee dates are my favourite low stakes plan, one hour, no pressure, and I get to watch how somebody orders.

Travel happens whenever the work allows it, usually badly planned and better for the lack of planning. The canvases that sell are never the ones I would have kept. Somebody has been in my life for a while now, and I say so early because it saves everybody the trouble later. Goodbyes get handled with a joke, every single time, rather than let the last thirty seconds turn heavy.
