If somebody calls me aloof, I no longer bother with a correction, and it has been said often enough for me to stop counting. Quiet is not at all the same thing as absent. Study eats the daylight, cooking wins the evening back, and I sing while I do it because the kitchen has the only decent acoustics in the building.

Karaoke is where the quiet reputation falls apart entirely, which is why I only ever go with people I already trust. There is a knot in my life that I do not unpick for anybody within the first hour. Ask about the food, the music, the book left open on the table, and I will talk for as long as you want. One song never gets sung in front of anybody, and that is exactly where the questions stop.
