Rinsing salt out of a wetsuit in the sink, which is roughly as glamorous as the research gets once you stand close to it. Most of my days are counting things underwater and typing the numbers up afterwards, and the numbers are somehow my favourite part. Shells come home in my pockets without permission and now cover an entire windowsill in careful rows.

An aquarium on a day off is not a busman's holiday, it is genuine delight, and I will stand at one tank for an hour. Open to something new, said gently here and meant entirely seriously. My patience disappears entirely around people being casually cruel about something another person loves, that small mocking tone. It empties a whole room for me instantly, and I never quite come back to it.
