Hands defeat me every single time, and I have filled two sketchbooks with nothing but knuckles and thumbs trying to beat them. Art pays some of the rent and costume work pays the rest, so the flat holds more wig heads than plates. The wig heads have names, which is roughly the point at which I stopped inviting anyone over. Sewing until three in the morning is normal here and I have stopped calling it a phase that will pass.

Cooking is the one place I do not chase precision, and everything turns out better for it, which I refuse to think about too hard. Singing happens under my breath while I work and stops the instant anybody comes through the door. Years from now I will have forgotten most of what people said to me and remembered exactly how they treated whoever brought the food out.
