Practising alone is better than performing and there is no point pretending otherwise, even though it makes no sense for someone who dances for a living. An empty studio after the last class has gone, one mirror, one track on repeat until my legs give up, that is the whole thing for me. Stages are fine. Applause is a bit like being handed something you did not order.

Shy is accurate for the first hour and then completely wrong after it. Travel and festivals are how I get pushed out of my own habits, usually by somebody with more nerve than me. Nothing settled and no rush, though I would not say no to being surprised. When the room empties I photograph my own feet in every city I land in, and I have hundreds of them and no plan.
