Turning down a second event this weekend was the decision, made standing in a car park holding heels I had already stopped feeling. The job is smiling in heat for hours and looking effortless while doing it, which is a skill nobody in the crowd ever credits. Discipline holds the whole thing together, never enthusiasm, and I learned that particular difference the hard way.

Cycling before work keeps my head in order and leaves my legs permanently complaining. Kendo is where the polite version of me is allowed to disappear for a full hour every week.
