Paintings I finish get turned to face the wall for a week, and nobody has ever been told why that is. Gaming is the part of my life running on other people's schedules, and I like it precisely because it asks nothing emotional of me. Calligraphy is the exact opposite of that in every way. One breath, one stroke, and the line shows plainly whether I was calm, which is not something I can hide afterwards.

Walking gets me out of the flat when the walls in here begin to narrow in on me. Long routes, no music, and nobody to talk to for three or four hours at a stretch. What I demand of myself is finishing what I started even when it is bad, and that rule stops at my own door.
