Chlorine is in everything I own, the towels, the car, probably the skin, and I gave up apologising for it long ago. Coaching swimmers means shouting across open water for six hours and then having no voice left for anything social afterwards. Hiking on rest days, up something steep, because sitting still has never once gone well for anybody involved.

Kendo twice a week keeps the competitive part of me from leaking into everything else I do. Karaoke after that, no voice, no shame, and the others have learned to expect it. Unattached, busy, not especially bothered by either. My time and my food and a spare set of dry clothes are always going spare. Anything that genuinely hurt takes far longer to reach, and I will make a joke about it first, every time.
