Anyone who waits for me to start when I said I would has learned by now to treat my timings as a rough suggestion. Everything else in my life runs to the minute, which makes this the one crack in an otherwise tidy wall.

Kendo three times a week, and the discipline there is real because someone is standing opposite me with a stick. Swimming on the mornings my head is too loud, lengths until the noise drains out. The costumes take months and I sew them myself, badly at first, then less badly, and the sewing is where I actually rest. Not tied to anyone and comfortable with it. What I leave unsaid, almost always, is that I would like to be asked twice, because once is easy to say no to.
