Culling three hundred frames down to four is the part of the job nobody warns you about, and it is equally the part I defend to anyone who calls photography easy. Shooting is the easy hour, the choosing is where the actual work lives.

Baking is the same discipline with a better smell, and I weigh everything because guessing has burned me literally. Calligraphy is where I go when the pictures will not come, and the sheet I keep is always the one where the third line went wrong in a way I could not repeat. Yoga first thing, badly, half asleep, but done. The purple has been through three shades and I am not done with it. Free at the moment and unhurried about it. I regret talking when I explain a photograph, because the explaining always makes it smaller than it was.
