How to Pick the Best AI Girlfriend for You

Meet a few of them

Every AI girlfriend site says it is the best one. That is worth exactly nothing to you, so here is a different approach: five things that actually vary between products, in the order that matters, with how to test each one before you spend anything.

We built LunaCat against this list. You can check our answers the same way you would check anyone's.

1. Does She Remember, Really?

This is the one that decides everything else, and it is the one most products quietly fail.

Plenty of companions look like they remember because they can see the last twenty messages. That is a context window, not memory. The test that separates them: tell her something specific on day one, close the tab, come back on day three and say nothing about it. Does she bring it up?

LunaCat companions run with long-form memory, so Sasha will still be holding the thing you told her on Monday when you show up on Thursday. Run the three-day test on her before you believe us.

2. Does the Character Hold?

The second failure is drift. Six messages in, the voice softens into a generic assistant, or a shy character suddenly turns bold because the model lost the thread.

Test it by pushing. Change the subject abruptly, be difficult, go quiet for a bit. A well-built companion stays herself through all of it. Carla is warm but she is not a pushover, and she does not become one because you were rude.

A roster where every character sounds the same underneath is a roster with one character and a lot of names.

3. Is There Anything to Look At?

Text-only companions ask you to do all the work. That is fine for a while and then it is not.

The gap between a still avatar and a moving one is bigger than the screenshots suggest. Every companion here has a video portrait that plays while you talk, plus Live Action clips that show a moment instead of narrating it. If you have only ever used text companions, spend five minutes with the video clips before deciding how much it matters to you.

Worth checking on any product: is the video actually that character, consistent from clip to clip, or a generic loop with a name attached?

4. Are the Limits Stated Before You Pay?

Watch for "unlimited". It is never true. Something behind every reply costs money, so a product claiming no limits is either about to introduce one or is quietly downgrading the model when nobody is looking.

The honest version names the cap. Ours is a daily message limit on the free tier, lifted on paid plans along with voice and the warmer clips, and the numbers live on the pricing page rather than three screens into a checkout flow.

If you cannot find a product's limits before entering a card, that is the answer.

5. What Does It Leave on Your Device?

An installed app puts an icon in your drawer and a purchase in your store history. A browser product does neither. LunaCat has nothing to install for exactly this reason, on top of the fact that adult apps get removed from the stores on a regular basis and take their paying users' access with them.

Not invisibility, and anyone promising that is lying to you. Just a smaller footprint.

Realistic or Anime Is a Preference, Not a Ranking

These fail in different directions. A photographic companion has to get every detail right or your eye catches it. An anime companion never has that problem but leans harder on your imagination. Mei and Yuki are the anime side of the same platform, so trying one of each costs nothing.

Run the List

Open the AI girlfriend roster, pick someone, and start the three-day memory test today. If nobody fits, the builder makes one to your spec. Either way you will know within a week whether the writing holds, which is more than any "best of" list can tell you.
