Someone left a paper flower taped to the ward door this morning and nobody has claimed it yet. Twelve hour shifts do strange things to what you find touching. Nursing is the part of me people never guess from the beach photos, and I like keeping both of those true at once.

Days off go to salt water if the coast is reachable, and if it is not, I cook something that takes far too long and eat half of it standing at the counter. I talk best after midnight, when the day has stopped asking anything of me. Someone is already in my life and I say so early rather than late. If only one question were allowed, mine would be this. What would you do if nobody kept any record of it?
