Sitting on the school roof with a stack of marking I carried up here because the staff room talks far too much. Teaching is the work and I am better at it than my face suggests, though I have been told I look permanently irritated while I am thinking. The best part is the student who argues back and then turns out to be right.

Nights go to the telescope, or a long game that lets my head empty out, or the pool at an hour when nobody else wants it and the water is completely flat. I sleep less than I should and I am aware of it. Single, not searching, not closed either. With only one question available to me, I would want to know what you do with the hour when nobody needs anything from you.
