Today I deleted a run I had spent nine hours on because the first twenty minutes were sloppy and it would have bothered me for weeks. That is roughly how I operate, which people find either admirable or exhausting depending on how close they sit. Competing is what people see, but practice is the actual life, the same sequence a hundred times until my hands stop asking questions.

Mornings go to the bike, long climbs, no music and nobody talking. Calligraphy in the evening for the opposite reason, one stroke and no undo button. Karaoke is the one place my discipline collapses entirely and I sing without shame. What I will not bend on is being on time, and I have waited outside in the rain for a quarter of an hour rather than knock early.
