Anyone meeting me gets the jokes and the volume first, and that version covers somebody who will worry at one chord change for three days running. Music is the work, small rooms, late load outs, and the walk home afterwards with my ears still ringing.

Karaoke I take far too seriously for a man who supposedly does it for fun. Teasing is a habit and I aim it squarely at the people I like. The tomatoes and chillies out on my balcony get more consistent attention than my own sleep does. Clear nights I climb up to the roof and find the same three constellations, which is the whole extent of my expertise. Tonight is a new song that refuses to work, the roof if the cloud clears, and nothing resembling sleep before two.
