Left the studio an hour early today, which never happens, because the room had emptied and the piece was not going to improve by being pushed. Dancing pays me and my body keeps its own accounts, so by now I can read the difference between tired and injured. Gardening is where the rest of my patience goes, a balcony of things that mostly survive me.

Yoga in the morning, not for the look of it, but because the alternative is a hip that complains all week. Costumes at the weekend, which surprises people who expect me to be serious about everything. Open to whatever comes next, and no urgency in me about it. Years later I never remember what anyone said to me, only how careful they were with somebody who could do nothing for them.
