Talking to the plants on my balcony is a habit I would deny at the station and cannot seem to break. Firefighting is long waiting and then everything at once, so the garden is where the leftover energy goes. Swimming does the rest, laps until my head is empty and my shoulders start complaining.

Costumes are the part nobody guesses, hours of foam and glue for one afternoon of being somebody else entirely. Single, bold about it, not subtle in the slightest. The best conversations I have had all year happened at three in the morning with the engine cooling outside. What puts me at ease is a person who asks a second question, the one proving the first was not merely politeness. Everything gets easier from there and I get considerably worse.
