Between two takes today I noticed that the desk lamp has been buzzing for a week and I have mentioned it to nobody, including myself. Streaming pays the bills and I am steady at it, six hours at a stretch, calm voice, very little face, and no talking over anybody. People assume a flat expression means boredom or disinterest. It usually means concentration and nothing else at all.

Painting is the private half, small canvases, nothing that anybody outside this room has ever seen. Dancing happens alone with the curtains shut, which is exactly where it belongs. Single, content, occasionally lonely in a manageable sort of way. By morning the thing I wish I had skipped is staying up for one more match, every single time, knowing exactly how it ends and playing it out anyway.
