Leaving the tripod at home was the choice I made today, and it turned an easy shoot into a difficult one that I liked considerably better. Photography is what I do for a living and walking is most of it, hours of nothing followed by four minutes of light worth having. Hiking is the same activity with the camera deliberately left zipped inside the bag.

Painting is what I turn to when the pictures refuse to come, and it is both worse and considerably more satisfying. Karaoke is the one place where the quiet version of me falls apart completely, usually somewhere around the middle of the second song. Goodbyes are the thing I do badly. I tend to leave a room without announcing anything, then think of the right line about an hour later.
