Directions leave my head the moment somebody gives them, which is funny for a person who can draw a map of your forearm from memory. Tattooing is the whole day, six hours bent over one arm, and the strange intimacy of somebody trusting you with something permanent while making small talk about their holiday.

Evenings go to the board, badly lit car parks after closing time and the same three tricks I have not landed yet. Horror films are on in the background of most of my life, and I know all the endings and jump anyway. Single, and content with the arrangement. What I regret by morning is never the tattoo. It is the last thing I said at two in the morning, the one that was funnier before it left my mouth.
